Re:Ensemble x Florian Christl

As part of the series “Endlich wieder live music”, Re:Ensemble and pianist/composer Florian Christl collaborate for an exceptional evening of live music, performing works by Florian Christl off his latest album.

RE:ENSEMBLE X Bergson

Mel Bonis left behind 300 compositions, all of which are virtually unknown. The reason is simple: she was a woman. Mélanie Hélène Bonis (1858 - 1937) knew that it would not be easy for her as a composer. That is why she foresightedly shortened her first name to the more gender-neutral “Mel”. When she submitted sheet music under this pseudonym to a major competition, she immediately won first prize - after all, she was mistaken for a man.

The Re:Ensemble from Munich is dedicated to the performance of living or forgotten composers. Mainly because there are still too many undiscovered, unperformed and unheard treasures slumbering away. At this first concert at Bergson Kunstkraftwerk, the musicians will focus on “French Connections”. In other words, references will be highlighted and French works juxtaposed. How did Mel Bonis compose in comparison to her contemporary Gabriel Fauré, the famous director of the Paris Conservatoire who taught so many important composers? What did Mel Bonis in turn take from her teacher, Camille Saint-Saëns, and how did she develop his music? The Re:Ensemble, this time as a piano quartet, brings this to life in the spectacular former Kesselhalle - through presentations, but above all through the music. So that everyone can form their own opinion.
